Thursday, September 14, 2023 (4:00 PM - 6:00 PM) (CDT)

Description

Lyon College will open its 2023-2024 Convocation speaker series with a presentation by hip-hop artist and cultural ambassador Epiphany 'Big Piph' Morrow on Thursday, Sept. 14, at 4 p.m. in the Nucor Auditorium of the Lyon Business and Economics Building on the Lyon College campus, 2300 Highland Rd. Batesville. The event is free and open to the public. Morrow will present a dynamic and interactive session through a fusion of hip hop and creativity. Attendees will be encouraged to reflect upon their individual stories as a means of seeing their own challenges and mishaps as tools for empowerment. Similarities and differences to others will be explored with a goal of strengthening community. Morrow is a Stanford University-educated engineer who decided rapping was a better career choice. This community builder from Pine Bluff performs regularly with his seven-piece band, Tomorrow Maybe, and is lead coordinator of The F.A.M. Project, which empowers future youth leaders to become present ones. He also is a noted speaker and serves as a cultural ambassador traveling abroad to countries such as Morocco, Algeria, Ghana, Seychelles, Thailand and more. While traveling internationally and throughout the United States, he not only performs but conducts workshops and creates with local artists. Morrow has a one-man show entitled “The Glow” that is now a digital series with PBS. He currently is in the process of releasing his new creative endeavor, “Far From Finished,” which is a web series and soundtrack. “We are very excited to host hip-hop artist and motivational speaker Epiphany Morrow as our first Convocation presenter of the fall season,” said Dr. Michael Oriatti, chair of the Lyon College Convocation Committee. “Epiphany 'Big Piph' Morrow is a super-talented individual who will bring not only his creative presence to Lyon but also an amazing story,” said Dr. Branndii Peterson, executive director of TRIO at Lyon College and member of the Convocation Committee. Lyon College students, faculty, staff and guests gather regularly for academic convocations and lectures on issues relevant to Lyon College, the community or society at large. For more information about the presentation, please contact Dr. Michael Oriatti at Michael.Oriatti@lyon.edu.
