Description
Class #4, October 3rd – Drawing from Observation: Learning to see and represent shapes, proportions, linear and atmospheric perspective, and spatial relationships.
Every artist needs a reliable set of tools – not just brushes or paint, but the visual skills that make great artwork possible. In this series of six classes, the fundamental elements and principles of art are explored as essential tools in an artist’s toolbox. Through demonstrations, guided exercises, and hands-on projects that progressively build visual awareness of how value, composition, color, form, shapes, line, texture, and observation each serve a unique purpose in creating strong successful artwork and how to use each “tool” to solve artistic challenges. Whether you are a beginner establishing a solid foundation or an experienced artist looking to sharpen your skills, this class provides practical knowledge and builds confidence in using the fundamental tools that support all artistic growth.
The goal of this course is not simply to complete drawings and paintings, but to build a toolbox of skills that can be used for a lifetime of artistic growth. The more familiar artists become with their tools, the more confident they can express ideas, solve visual problems, and create meaningful work. Fundamentals are not restrictions – they are the tools that make creative growth and freedom possible.
