The Independence County Library is hosting their Fall Poetry Slam on Friday, September 22, 2023, at 6pm. Poets aged 13 and above are invited to compete. Prizes will be awarded for first and second place; prizes are $25- and $15-dollar Stella’s gift card, respectively.  

There is no entry fee for participants or observers. Complimentary coffee and dessert will be available for patrons.  

To compete, poets need to bring three original poems and are not allowed to use props, costumes, or music. Five judges will score performance and writing on a scale from 7.5 to 9.9. The lowest and highest scores will be dropped; the three remaining scores will be averaged.
