Description
The Cave City Watermelon Festival began in August 1980 as a one-day Chamber of Commerce event called the Cave City Watermelon Parade, promoting “The World’s Sweetest Watermelons” and local businesses.
Despite an exceptionally dry summer that year, the festival featured a parade, music, games, and the crowning of the first “Watermelon Queen.” Thanks to Herschel Runsick, who grew melons in the Strawberry River
bottoms, the festival had enough watermelons for its first celebration. Over the years, the event expanded into a three-day festival with catfish dinners, pancake breakfasts, talent shows, watermelon contests, car shows,
and more. Though the festival has evolved, it focuses on Cave City's watermelons and community. Each July, people from across the country gather for this unique celebration.
Now in its 45th year, the festival is the largest in the region and has been recognized as one of Arkansas' top events. While watermelons remain at the heart of our celebration, we honor the people and businesses that make
Cave City a special place. Experience what makes our festival so beloved! Three days packed full of fun and entertainment for the entire family! Nationally acclaimed musicians and regional favorites hit the stage
beginning Thursday evening. Activities include a children's fishing derby, food truck war, 5K run, car show, pancake breakfast, parade, school alumni reunion, speed eating contest, seed spitting contest, free watermelon feast,
prize melon auction, incredible food, kids activities, and much more! Local businesses will be having special events throughout town as well.
