The Chief of Police ensures the department is adequately manned, staffed, equipped, trained, and disciplined for the detection, prevention and suppression of crime and the equitable enforcement of all city, state and federal laws within their jurisdiction while conforming to all applicable rules regulating the operation of the police department and law enforcement activities.  Law enforcement procedures, city, state and federal laws, rules and regulations as well as City personnel rules and regulations govern this position.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Conduct the planning and assignment of programs and police activities.
  • Preparing and maintaining records and reports.
  • Managing subordinates and investigations.
  • Exercising judgment on the day-to-day operations.
  • Developing policies and regulations.
  • Planning budgets for the Police Department.
  • Designing crime prevention programs.  

Minimum Qualifications

  • Be a citizen of the United States.
  • Possess a valid Arkansas driver’s license.
  • Certified by the Arkansas Commission of Law Enforcement Standards and Training as an officer as established by AR code 12-9-204, and be in good standing.
  • Have 10 or more years of Law Enforcement experience
  • Have a minimum of five years of managerial and supervisory experience.
  • Have good written and oral communication skills.
